About Rooted in Marin

Learn more about this project

Led by the Cities, Towns, and County of Marin, Rooted in Marin is a community-centered engagement and education process to understand displacement in Marin County.

Through this work, we researched and developed a set of potential policy solutions to help address the factors that are forcing many of our friends, family members, and neighbors to leave, or to live without a home, because they can’t find housing here that they can afford.

Project Summary

Phase one: listening and learning
We started by making sure we understand the problems we are trying to solve as well as the opportunities and assets that can help address them. In addition to data-driven analyses, we wanted to hear from the community about their experiences of high housing costs, displacement, and homelessness, providing a fuller understanding of the dynamics and impacts of the housing shortage in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Phase two: crafting collaborative solutions
Based on what we learned in Phase One, we're working together to agree upon goals and guiding principles for addressing displacement. An important focus is on defining a shared framework that can guide coordinated actions taken by the Cities, Towns, and County of Marin, in collaboration with other agencies and community partners.
